Landsdown Arms

Lews – historic town in East Sussex, gets a traditional sign writen pub

Sign Writing
Hand Painted Typography

Located on the South Coast of England, the Lansdown Arms in Lewes wanted a new hand-painted sign that reflected the warmth and character of its local community. My role was to design and hand-paint exterior signage that would capture the pub’s heritage while maintaining a fresh, inviting feel.

Design Approach:
Drawing inspiration from traditional British pub signage, I used heritage colours, classic typefaces, and balanced layout design to create a piece that felt both authentic and welcoming. Every brushstroke was crafted by hand, ensuring a tactile and personal finish that digital methods simply can’t replicate.

The end result is a bespoke, handcrafted sign that embodies the friendly and timeless spirit of Lewes, enhancing the Lansdown Arms’ street presence and charm.

Outcome:
This project showcases my expertise in traditional signwriting, colour theory, and typographic composition, merging craft and design to create a lasting visual impression that connects with the community.
